Howard Huston Hawkins, Sr., 59, of 1010 W. Faulkner St., died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital following a brief illness. Born Sept. 17, 1911, in Gonzales, Tex., he was the son of Judson and Flora Crooks Hawkins. He was the owner and operator of Howard's Newsstand for the past 35 years and had been a resident of Union County for 32 years. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church and the woodmen of the World. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mable Shepard Hawkins; a son, Howard H. Hawkins, Jr., El Dorado; three daughters, Mrs. Joyce Ann Freeman, Shreveport, Mrs. Pam Jordan, Beaumont, Tex., and Miss Ginger Hawkins, El Dorado; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Lulevich and Mrs. Juanita Leary, both of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mrs. Wenona Reuter, Stamps, and Mrs. Helen McCown, Longview, Tex., and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Johnson, the Rev. Bruce Murphy and the Rev. Lea Joyner officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Pallbearers will be Donald Brewer, Horace Houser, Wallace Britt, D. B. Jones, Dick Hiett, Walter Tucker, Paul Hyde and P. A. Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be Woodmen of the World. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time. (El Dorado Times - January 4, 1971)
