James Joseph Antoon, Sr., 55, of 1701 N. Madison Ave., died Monday morning following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 13, 1913, in El Dorado, he was the son of Ruth Namie and John M. Antoon. Operator of a jewelry store in El Dorado for the past 30 years, he was president of Antoon's Jewelers, Inc. at the time of his death. Serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he was cited by Vice Admiral T. C. Kinkaid for distinguishing himself by heroism in fighting a fire on board a ship in the Southwest Pacific Area. He was a charter member of the Civitan Club of El Dorado and of Union Local 706. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Arkansas Retail Jeweler's Association and of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Claudean Chavers Antoon of El Dorado; three daughters, Edith Elaine Antoon, Sheila Antoon, Alicia Gail Antoon, all of El Dorado; a son, James J. Antoon, Jr., of EL Dorado; two brothers, Sam J. Antoon of El Dorado and Jonny I. Antoon of Magnolia; one sister, Mrs. Joe Moses of Leesville, La.; a granddaughter and two grandsons. Rosary will be said by the Rev. Joseph Doyle at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Doyle officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Pallbearers will be Maurice Camell, Freddie Michael. George Nomey, Fred Negem. Blann Ellis, Thomas Abdella, T. H. NOrris Jr and Ed Corey. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the El Dorado Civitan Club. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. (El Dorado Times - June 17, 1969)
