Robert Terry Hammonds, 77, a retired Magnolia Petroleum Co. employe, died at his home, Smackover, Route One, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after a long illness. He was born in Van Alstyne, Tex., Nov. 3, 1886, the son of Henry and Nona Goss Hammonds. A resident of near Smackover for 45 years, Mr. Hammonds was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smackover, a 32nd degree Mason, member of Warren G. Harding Lodge No. 717, and a member of the Woodmen of the World. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mattie Epps Hammond; three daughters, Miss Venice Hammonds of Smackover, Miss Virginia Hammonds of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. W. D. Popwell of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Mrs. Josie Ganes of Dennison, Tex. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Rumph Mortuary. (The El Dorado Times - June 24, 1964)
