Mrs. Patricia Murphy Gilliam, 50, 2000 Euclid Ave., died Sunday night at a local hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born May 5, 1919, in Rapides Parish, La., and was the daughter of Dr. Garland D. and Fanell Moore Murphy, Sr. Mrs. Gilliam was prominent in civic, cultural and religious affairs of El Dorado. She was also a member of St. Mary;s Episcopal Church and of the Altar Guild of that church. She was president of the Pierian Club, and a member of the Junior Charity League, the D.A.R., the board of directors of the Community Concert Association and chairman of the Hospitality Committee of that organization. In 1968, Mrs. Gilliam was appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to the Advisory Council on Mentally Rerarded Children. She attended Arlington Hall, Lindenwood College and the University of Arkansas and was graduated from Southern State College. At the time of her death, she was a candidate for a master's degree in speech therapy at Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, Ruston, La. Survivors include; her husband, Henry Gatling Gilliam, El Dorado; two daughters, Mrs. Michael Murfee, Monroe, La., and Mrs. Mark Linder, Fayetteville; one granddaughter, Molly Katherine Murfee, El Dorado; her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Garland D. Murphy, EL DOrado; and one brothers, John Thomas Murphy, Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The Rev. J. Rayford McLean will officiate. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Active pallbearers will be Dr. David Yocum, John Yocum, Jim Garrison, Dr. Sam Jameson, John Holloway, Pat Riley, John Howell and James Matheney. (El Dorado Times - June 30, 1969)
