At the age of 92, Rosa Lee Hurd Dawson, (of Conway, Arkansas) who had a
passion for traveling, took flight Sunday morning , September 17th, 2006 to her
heavenly home where her loved ones waited with open arms. She was born May
20th, 1914 in Vernon, Lamar Co., AL to John Thomas Ruso and Nancy Jane
Caroline Graves. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Herman Asbery Hurd, her second husband, Ernest Dawson, all her siblings, her
son, Billy Wayne Hurd, and granddaughter, Dana Diane Mize. She leaves behind two sons, both
of Little Rock, Rev. John Marshall Hurd and his wife Betty and Dr. Herman Eldon Hurd and
his wife Wanda; two daughters, both of Conway, Mrs. Herma Jean Mize and her husband
Rodney and Mrs. Nancy Diane Duke and her husband George; 12 grandchildren, Renee Mize
and Bill Mize of Conway, Lance Mize of Vilonia, Doug Hurd of Arkadelphia, Todd Hurd of
Benton, Kevin Hurd of Jacksonville, Fl, Courtney Clark of Tucker, GA, Steven Hurd of Conway,
Susan Washington of Benton, Benjamin Duke, David Duke, and Sarah Strickland all of Conway
and 11 great grandchildren. Rosa was a minister's wife for 53 fulfilling years. They were
planters, starting new churches and reopening closed ones, where through the years, she served
in almost every position except the pulpit and choir. They worked at Kelley Heights Church of
Russellville, Deleware Baptist Church, Dover First Baptist Church, Pottsville First Baptist
Church, Fair Park Baptist Church of Russellville, Mayflower First Baptist Church, Blaney Hill
Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church both of Conway, among others. In latter years
she was active in the Senior Citizen Centers of Jacksonville and Conway, the Joy Sunday School
Class at First Baptist Church Jacksonville and Conway, and the activities at The Village Of
Seven Mornings, where she lived until her homegoing. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday,
September 19th at Roller McNutt Funeral Home of Conway (501.327.7727). Funeral services
will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 20th at First Baptist Church of Conway, officiated by
Rev. Kyle Cochran assisted by Rev. John Hurd with burial at Mayflower Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be her grandsons. Memorials may be made to Gideons, PO Box, 397, Conway, AR 72033.
