March 24, 1858 - March 5, 1921
El Dorado, March 7. - Mrs. Caroline Smead Armstrong, 63 years old, wife of D. E. Armstrong, and one of the pioneer women of southern Arkansas, died at her home here Saturday night about 11:30 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church here Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. John C. Williams of Prescott, the Rev. Stanley Thomas of Scotland, Union county, and the local pastor, the Rev. Mr. McElroy. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her husband, one son, W. B. Armstrong of El Dorado, and five daughters, Mrs. J. S. Alphin, Mrs. J. K. Mahoney, Mrs. W. C. Miles and Miss Priscilla Armstrong, all of El Dorado, and Mrs. J. L. Lumpkin of Dallas, Tex. Two sisters, Mrs. V. H. Richardson of Magnolia and Mrs. S. Q. Sevier of Camden, also survive her. B. C. Powell of Little Rock and Smead and Leonard Powell, both of Camden, were nephews of Mrs. Armstrong. (Arkansas Democrat - March 7, 1921)
