June 21, 1892 - September 24, 1966
Emmett Dale Phillips, 74, of 618 E. Hillsboro St., El Dorado, died suddenly at Union Memorial Hospital, Saturday. He was born in Strong, on June 21, 1892, the son of John R. and Ghatsy Phillips. He was the owner and operator of Phillip's Grocery until his retirement eight years ago. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of the First Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ollie Kavanaugh Phillips, one daughter, Mrs. George W. Connor, Of El Dorado; one brother, W. A. Phillips of Crossett; and one sister, Mrs. Porter Bryant, of El Dorado. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, at the First Methodist Church with Dr. Alvin Murry and Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be the following nephews of Mr. Phillips, Gus Phillips, Charles Phillips, Bill Briscoe, Ed Parker, Hal Phillips and Ralph Phillips. (The El Dorado Times - September 26, 1966)
