Janice Goodbar Davies, 95, of Petit Jean Mountain, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008. She was born May 4, 1913 in Lonoke, Arkansas, the daughter of Fritz Emmett Goodbar and Lottie Loewer Goodbar, and was the widow of Samuel Ladd Davies to whom she was married for over sixty years. She earned her BA and MA from Arkansas State Teacher's College. She retired as Chair of the English Department of Parkview High School in Little Rock. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Morrilton, Birthday Girls, Thursday Book Club, Little Rock Musical Coterie, Past President of the Aesthetic Club, a founder of Friends of Morrilton Library and Chair of the Conway County Library Board; Morrilton Pathfinders, Petit Jean Extension Homemakers, and was a Director of the Ouachita Council of the Girl Scouts of America. Janice was a Sunday School teacher, church camp administrator and worked with church youth groups from New Mexico to North Carolina. She will be remembered by students and teachers alike for her lessons and mentoring. Her programs and book reviews were legendary. She loved to entertain at her beautiful home on Petit Jean Mountain decorated with momentos from their many travels around the world. She is survived by three sons, Samuel Ladd Davies, Jr. and wife Patsy of Frederick, Maryland, David Goodbar Davies and wife Sandra of Petit Jean Mountain, and Richard Walter Davies and wife Betsy of North Little Rock; three granddaughters, Katherine Riccobono and husband Andrew of Falls Church, Virginia, Sarah Davies of Houston, Texas, and Meredith Davies of Little Rock. She was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Loewer Goodbar of Baltimore, Maryland. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. David B. Davies and Rev. Frank LeBlanc officiating. Burial will be at Petit Jean Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Memorials may be made to: Conway County Library, 101 W.
