When Samuel Claud Sam West was born on March 20, 1852, in Gibson, Tennessee, his father, Owen, was 33 and his mother, Jane, was 31. He married Harrett M West in 1880. They had three children during their marriage. He died on July 18, 1943, at the age of 91.
