Obituary
Ruth Mchree Steely Blevins of Violet Hill, Arkansas
Ruth Mchree Steely Blevins was born on September 29, 1928, in Clarksville, Arkansas to Dempsey Edward Steely and Alva Leona (Bledsoe) Steely. She graduated to her eternal heavenly home on Monday, January 30, 2017. Ruth was married in her home church, First Baptist Church, Calico Rock, to William (Bill) A. Blevins of Franklin, Arkansas on Sunday, October 23, 1960.
Ruth had two sisters, Frances Jane (Steely) Smith and Betty Lou (Steely) Blanton; and four brothers, Thelbert Arlie Steely, John Edward Steely, Arthur Watt Steely, and Louis Len Steely, who preceded her in death. Ruth and Bill Blevins have 20 nieces and nephews for whom she has been a loving and prayerful aunt and surrogate mother.
Following Ruth’s Mountain View, Arkansas high school graduation, she attended Ouachita Baptist College where she was awarded a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in piano in 1947.
She has selflessly used her music skills for churches and schools throughout her life: as a volunteer she organized and directed an after-school-hours chorale at Calico Rock High School whose repertoire included “I Am a Happy Wanderer” and “Where In The World But In America?”
Ruth made significant contributions in her lifetime career as teacher in Huttig, Dermott, Calico Rock, Mountain Home, Oxford, and Izard County Consolidated School District. She leaves a legacy of encouraging relationships.
Ruth’s literary interests and aptitude allowed her to enjoy and successfully complete a variety of word/spelling puzzles. Beautiful embroidery and stitchery items she has made are treasured gifts by many.
