Charles Thornton (Dick) Preston, 70, of Hudson Memorial Nursing Home died early Sunday morning in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. Mr. Preston was born March 15, 1894 in El Dorado and was the son of Jesse J. and Tommie Askew Preston. He was chief yard clerk for Rock Island Railroad before his retirement in 1946. Mr. Preston was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, a member of the El Dorado Lodge No. 13 F. and A. M. and also a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. J. W. Davis of El Dorado; two sons, Charles T. Preston, Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., and Tommy Preston of Kilgore, Tex.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Young's with Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Fernald, E. B. Cobb, Adolph Boser, Henry De La Bretonne, Harry B. Reeves, Frank Jones, Lloyd Cook, Grover Zinn and R. Bernie Wilson. (The El Dorado News - November 23, 1964)
