Melville Leon Gibbs, 94, of 509 W. Hillsboro St., a retired railroad worker, died in a local hospital Saturday morning after an extended illness. He was born in Tuscumbia, Ala., on July 28, 1872, the son of Thomas A. Gibbs, and Narcissus Nesbit Gibbs. He moved from Alabama to El Dorado in 1911 and was alderman of Ward 2 from 1944 to 1956. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and is survived by two sons, Joe L. Gibbs, Pasadena, Tex., and R. E. Gibbs, El Dorado; two daughters, Mrs. Patty Walker and Mrs. James Frank Clark, both of El Dorado; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Mr. Gibbs was a member of the Knights of Pythias. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Alvin Murry and Rev. David B. Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery by Pratt Funeral Service. The family will be at home at 509 W. Hillsboro St. Active pallbearers were Carl Egner, Joe Carroll, J. W. Carnes, James Harper, Quenton Lewis and Mack Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Little, Marvin Clark, T. C. McManus, Y. E. Weldon, Mayor Roy Goudy, Joe Smalling, Elliott Cobb and Johnnie Bell.
