General William Henry Harrison was born in Granville County, North Carolina to Hardy and Luticia Paschal Harrison. Hardy was a son of Anthony and Phyllis Lewis. Anthony was a member of the Eboe tribe of Nigeria and was brought to this country as a slave. Hardy was born a slave and was the custom of the time was given the name of his master thus he became Hardy White later becoming Hardy Harrison. General William Henry Harrison married Sallie Ann Dortch of Mecklenberg, Virginia, a daughter of James Dortch of Scotch-Irish ancestry and Nancy Daily of Eboe ancestry. To this union were born thirteen children.
