Leon Carroll Rankin, 62, of 819 W. Hillsboro St., died Thursday morning in a local hospital after a long illness. Born at Leola, Ark., Feb. 25, 1906, he was the son of John Henry and Annie Brashears Rankin. Mr. Rankin was a retired employe of the Lion Oil Refinery and had been a resident of El Dorado for 41 years. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Hazel Bailey Rankin of El Dorado; his father of Georgetown, La.; two sons, Wendell C. Rankin of Luling, La and Jimmy K. Rankin of El Dorado; four brothers, Bill Rankin of Tullos, La., Herbert Rankins of El Dorado, Vernon Rankin of Pineville, La., and Alva Rankin of Nashville, Ark.; six sisters, Mrs. Grace Jones, Georgetown, Mrs. Lela Meux, Hot Springs, Mrs. J. E. Ables, El Dorado, Mrs. G. L. Fitzhugh, South Gate, Calif., Mrs. Grace Barker, Lewiston, Idaho, and Mrs. Robert Smith of Benton, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Rumph Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Noel Cross and the Rev. I. L. Claude officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James F. Ables, Troy D. Brashears, Dr. Conrad Taylor, Dr. Don E. Brashears, John D. Rankin, Hollis Bailey, Dr. Murray T. Harris and Dr. Larry B. Brashears. Honorary pallbearers will be employes of Lion Oil Co. and members of the 25 Year Club. (El Dorado Times - June 13, 1968)
