William Arthur Hankins (78)

William Arthur Hankins, son of the late Theron Hankins and Velma Mitchell Hankins departed life on March 16, 2018. Bill was born in Pineville and spent his younger life in the area going to school, working hard and, creating life-long friends and mischief. Bill moved around a lot in his early teen years when his Dad’s job took the family to numerous locations throughout the Mid-West. Bill’s heart was always in Pineville with his friends and the Mitchell family, so he moved back for his high school years and stayed with various families in the area. After High School, Bill attended college in Beebe, Arkansas.

In 1961, Bill married Sue Marchant and a family soon followed. Bill & Sue lived most of their adult lives and raised their family in the Kansas City and Blue Springs area, but they always remained close to friends and family in their hometowns. Bill worked as a skilled carpenter and many times used his craft to help others in his family, church and community. Bill had a life-long thirst for learning and history. He was an avid reader, television watcher, and Sudoku player. Bill loved sharing his enthusiasm with others for hunting, fishing, shooting, and telling “fish” stories (both big and small, some true). Bill and Sue were active grandparents and made it a priority to spend time with their five granddaughters.

After Sue’s death in 2014, Bill returned to the Pineville/Calico Rock area and enjoyed attending local sporting events, community events, church, having traditional Sunday dinner at the Mitchell’s and shooting lawn destroying armadillos off the back porch. All in all, a life well lived!

Bill is survived by two daughters: Tammy Phillips and husband Mark of League City, Texas, and Michelle Miller and husband Kevin of Blue Springs Missouri. Five granddaughters: Ashely Miller, Jessika Miller, Alexandria Signore, Sarah Miller and Taylor Duehren. Two Great-Grandchildren: Milani Enriquez and Jonas Patterson. Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Ann Webster and infant brother.

Visitation and funeral services will be Monday, March 19 at his church, Pineville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Toby Davis officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Funerals Services at 2:00 pm and burial immediately following at the Pineville Cemetery, under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Pineville Cumberland Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 256 Pineville, Arkansas 72566.
