Lola Rodgers Smith, age 99, of Conway (formerly of McGehee) died Thursday, April 6th, 2006. She was born December 17th, 1906 in Kingsland, Arkansas to the late Evan Porter and Mary Elizabeth Rodgers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years: William Arling Smith and by her brother and sister: Dr. Porter Rodgers Sr. and Erma Lee Rodgers Pulliam. Lola graduated from Hendrix College in 1926, had taught school in the McGehee Public School System, was a member and served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of McGehee and was very involved in serving as President of “Women of Church” and serving actively in ChristCare Group. She is survived by her daughter: Patricia Smith Denton and husband Bo of Conway, son: Rodger Smith and wife Betty of Georgia, her grandchildren: Dean Denton and wife Julie of Sherwood, Craig Denton and wife Chrissy of Conway, Blake Denton and wife Angela of Little Rock, Sidra McWhorter and husband Johnny of Georgia, Porter Smith and Maria Smith both of Georgia; fifteen great-grandchildren, nephew: Dr. Porter Rodgers Jr. and wife Carol of Searcy and niece: Ann Rodgers Whetsell and husband Bill of Tennessee. Graveside services will be held Saturday, 2:00 pm, April 8th at the McGehee Cemetery in McGehee, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held Sunday, 4:00 pm, April 9th at the First Presbyterian Church of Conway with Dr. John Shell and Dr. Ken Upham officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Friday at Roller McNutt Funeral Home (501.327.7727) of Conway. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2400 Prince St, Conway, Arkansas 72034.
