RUSTON, La. — Ruth Ellen Smith, 90, of Ruston, La., died Monday.
She was born March 14, 1915, at Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of the late Anthony Fell and Estella Fell.
She was reared at Bearden, Ark. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1938 and taught home economics for two years. She taught general science, biology and chemistry for more than 30 years at McGehee (Ark.) High School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church at McGehee for almost 48 years. She taught Sunday school and training union classes.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, A.C. Smith, who died in 1992; and one son, John C. Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Ann Roberts of Ruston and Mary Ellen Smith of West Point, Tenn.; one brother, Ralph Bell of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Annetta Fell of Bearden and Frances Long of Alexandria, La.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in McGehee Cemetery. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Service at McGehee.
