Daughter of Theodore & Veronica (Berberich) Thessing
Theodore Thessing was born in 1860 and came to the United States in 1878 from Westphalia, Germany, with two brothers and first settled in Germantown, Illinois. Two years later, he moved to Conway and worked on the Henry Erbach farm. At age 21, he went to work for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad as a section foreman in charge of the tracks from Preston to Menifee, Arkansas.
On February 7, 1889, Theodore married Veronica Berberich,in Faulkner County, Arkansas. They moved from Preston to Conway and made their home at 383 Ingram Street, where they had 14 children: Louisa, Kaie, Christina, Henry, Josephine, Theodore Jr, Frances, Antoinette, Frederick, Joseph, Wilheim, Bernard, and Gertrude. Theodore Thessing became a naturalized citizen on January 21, 1924.
Joseph Thessing, the ninth child of Theodoe & Veronic Thessing, was born in 1904. He married Florence Halter, daughter of F U and Susan Halter. Joseph and Florence engaged in farming and had a bakery in downtown Conway. He eventually turned the bakery business over to family members and worked for Plunkett Jarrell Wholesale Company. Florence attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) and received a teaching degree. She taught mathematics, English, and Latin at St Joseph School.
