Mae was the younger of 2 daughters born to Carrie Cates and John Emmanuel Wise. She and her sister, Dora, grew up in rural Little River County AR. Mae married Earl Charles LaVoice October 25, 1923 in Little River County where they raised their family of 2 daughters and 2 sons. Mae was a member of the Methodist Church.
