Samuel “Big Sam” Eugene Sharp, Sr. Of Melbourne, Arkansas

Samuel “Big Sam” Eugene Sharp, Sr, son of the late William Earl Sharp and Willie Irene Floyd Sharp, was born January 17, 1937 in Brockwell, Arkansas. He departed this life April 9, 2017 in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 23 days. He was a 1955 graduate of Oxford High School. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Majors June 6, 1959. He spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, provider and friend. During his early working years, he picked fruit in Wentachee, Washington and was employed by Bandmill Gin Company. He spent his remaining working years as a self-employed master plumber and electrician. He was an active member of Melbourne United Methodist Church. He volunteered with the Methodist Backpack Program for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Charlotte Sharp of the home; one daughter and son-in-law: Alisa and Jimmy Dean Sanders of Melbourne; one son and daughter-in-law: John and Tanya Sharp of Lowell, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law: Angie Sharp of Melbourne; one brother: Dave Sharp of Melbourne; two sisters: Linda Harrington of Norfork and Glenda Hopper and husband Jerry of Mountain Home; five grandchildren; Meghan and husband Connor Murray of Hunt, Texas, Haley and husband Cory Tyler of Salem; Anna Kay Sharp of Melbourne, James Lewis Sharp and John David Sharp, II of Lowell; three brothers-in-law: J. C. Majors, Jr and wife Gay of Bandmill, Ed Majors of Melbourne and Dr. Jake Majors and wife Dr. Kathleen Majors of Shreveport, Louisiana; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: David Paul Sharp; one son: Sam “Little Sam” Sharp, Jr and one brother-in-law: Raydon Harrington.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 13 from 6-8 p.m. at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Graveside funeral service will be Friday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Melbourne Cemetery with Bill Grothe officiating.

Memorials may be made to: Melbourne United Methodist Church, Backpack Program, 233 North Lunen, Melbourne, Arkansas 72556.

Pallbearers: Matthew Harrington, Jerry Dean Hopper, Jason Majors, Jon Light, Cory Tyler and Wayne Harris.

Honorary Pallbearers: Earnie Blackley, Bob Ramsey, Dennie Ray Floyd, Darrell Webb and Coy Dale.
