Dr. Robert L. McDonald (Bob) died on July 2, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kathleen Stone McDonald, two sons, Lee of Bellaire, Texas and Blanton and wife Ellen of Denver, Colorado and two daughters, Kathleen (Keenie) McDonald of Greenwich, Connecticut and Lynn Lotterman and husband Thomas of Washington, DC, grandson Brandon McDonald of Nashville, Tennessee and two granddaughters, Nicole Condon and husband Nick of Denver and Katie Lotterman of Washington, DC; great-grandson Garrett Condon of Denver, CO; brother-in-law Dr. Donald L. Stone and wife Ann of Daphne, AL.

Bob was born in Lockesburg, Arkansas, on January 19, 1922.

His early education was received in El Dorado and he became an Eagle Scout. He received his pre-medical education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine in 1946. He interned at St. Louis University Group of Hospitals. Upon completing his internship he was inducted in the U.S. Army, choosing the Air Force, and graduated from the School of Aviation Medicine at Randolph AFB, Texas. He was a captain in the Air Force and was a flight surgeon at Eglin AFB, Florida.

After his discharge from military service he entered family practice in Eudora, which did not have a physician at that time. After five years of family practice he entered a three year radiology residency at the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock. His desire was to return to southeast Arkansas to live and provide radiology services to physicians and hospitals in the area. He joined Dr. Charles Anderson in Pine Bluff and assisted in the development of the radiology department at the JRMC and ultimately in the formation of a seven member group of radiologists in Pine Bluff. Dr. McDonald was a member of the medical staff at the JRMC and hospitals in Lake Village, Dermott, McGehee, and Dumas.

Dr. McDonald was a Board Certified Radiologist, an Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology at the UAMS and a member of the American College of Radiology, the Radiologial Society of North America, the American Medical Association, Arkansas Medical Society, and the Jefferson and Desha County Medical Societies.

Bob was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of McGehee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McGehee-Desha County Hospital Foundation or First Presbyterian Church of McGehee
