Donald Varnell Strange, 82, of Camden, died Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Pine Hills Health and Rehabilitation in Camden. Mr. Strange was preceded in death by his parents, Louie A. and Euncie G. Erwin Strange, his brother, Rex Strange, his sister, Maxine Strange and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lanie and Gladys Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Strange of Camden; son Richard Strange of Ft. Worth, TX; grandson, Marcus Strange, grandaughter, Lani Dunn and husband, Caleb all of Ft. Worth, TX; brother, Narval Strange and wife, Betty of Bearden; sister Lanell Peace and husband, Otis of Camden; sister-in-law, Joan Biram and husband, James; brother-in-law, Jimmy Johnson and wife, Erma; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Strange was born on July 20, 1930 in Taylor, AR. After moving to Pine Bluff, AR, he graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1949 where he was a member of the school’s first football team.
Mr. Strange was a US army Veteran, serving in both Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded 4 Bronze Star Medals. After serving 28 years, he retired as Chief Warrant officer (W-3). He then furthered his education and earned his Real Estate and Brokers License and became a member of the One Million Dollar Club with Coldwell Banker while living in Killeen, TX.
Mr. Strange was a member of Cullendale Assembly of God church in Camden. He enjoyed telling others about Christ and inviting then to church. He loved his family and he loved the Lord.
Funeral services for Mr. Strange will be Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Cullendale Assembly of God Church with Rev. Chris Cleveland and Rev. James Biram officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery at Bearden. Proctor Funeral Home of Camden is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Cullendale Assembly God Church Building Fund, 3250 Cash Rd., Camden, AR 71701
