McGehee Soldier, Back From Korea, Kills Self
Camp Polk, La., Jan. 3 (AP) A 24 year old Camp Polk soldier, recently returned from Korea, was found shot to death today in a hotel room at Leesville, La., near the Camp.
Dr. Joe Broyles, Vernon Parish coroner, said Sfc. John F Lacey of McGehee, Ark., took his own life with a 22 caliber pistol between 9 and 9:30 a.m. today.
A hotel maid discovered the body.
The Public Information Office here reported that Lacey left a note for his commanding officer in which he told of despondency because of a nervous condition from which he said he suffered since his return from overseas.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Jessie Faith Lacey and a brother, Bobby Joe Lacey, both of McGehee.
