Son of Adriaan Klijn and Isabella Harbag, born in Zutphen. His father died 18 Feb 1857, when he was 3 years old, and he and his mother and 3 siblings came over to the US shortly thereafter. Her parents and 2 older siblings had already settled in Baltimore, MD. The surname Klijn was Americanized to Kline by some and Klein by others.

Emma Kline was born Emma DeLozier to Benjamin Campbell "Camph" DeLozier and Levina Elizabeth "Vainey" Lebow in Blount County, Tennessee, USA, She married John S Kline November 23, 1877 in Morgan County, Tennessee, USA, John and Emma had two children, Neil Campbell Kline and Charles A Kline.
