MCGEHEE -- Murl Allen Hallaway, 78, of McGehee, died Friday at McGehee.
He was born Jan. 30, 1926, at Yancopin (Desha County), a son of the late Oliver Hallaway and Maudie Sankie Hallaway.
He was a retired chief engineer on a river boat.
He was a World War II veteran.
He was a Mason and a member of the Assembly of God faith.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Allen Henson; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruby Sass Hallaway; four daughters, Frankie Koonce of Dallas, Sylvia Wrobel and Murlene Ellis, both of McGehee and Phyliss Wash of Sheridan; two sisters, Tootie Stinson and Mavice Wargo, both of Watson (Desha County); 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at McGehee Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Caldwell officiating. Arrangements are by Griffen Funeral Service at McGehee.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
