Clyde V. Griffing Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of McGehee, AR., went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2011.
He was born in McGehee on November 23, 1919, to Clarence Smith and Clara Barefield Griffing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of siblings: sisters, Mary Bass and Myrtle Griffing, and brothers, Norman, Milton, and Nolan Griffing.
Mr. Griffing was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Army from 1944-46 in railway operations in the South Pacific. He was a conductor for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for forty years, a lifetime member of McGehee First Baptist Church, and a Shriner.
Clyde was preceded in death by his precious wife of sixty-one years, Margie Avery Griffing, who passed away in 1999.
He is survived by a daughter, Gail Kirtley of Russellville; daughter and son-in-law, Shay and Dave Palfreeman of Russellville; and a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde Jr. and Susan Griffing of Salt Lake City, Utah. Also three grandsons and their wives, Earl and Lisa Kirtley and Mark and Terri Palfreeman of Russellville; Jon and Courtney Palfreeman of Springdale; two granddaughters, Karen Kirtley of Russellville and Alicia Griffing of Salt Lake City; and one granddaughter and her husband, Amanda and Alex Freshman of Salt Lake City. Clyde leaves six great-grandchildren, Emily, Lindsey, Caleb, Brennen, Cole, and Hayden.
The extended families left by Clyde are brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Wiley and Betty Avery, Eva and John Pearson, Patsy Binns; a niece Betty Seamans, along with other loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at 2:00pm, Sunday, July 24, 2011 at McGehee First Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Cunningham officiating. Burial was in the McGehee Cemetery under the Direction of Griffin Funeral Service.
The family received friends on Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Griffin Funeral Service.
Pallbearers are: David Binns, Larry Coulter, Frank Evans, Charles Ferguson, James Kolb, and Bill Stoubaugh.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Leonard Ashcraft, Doc Bilberry, Bill Lafara, Jordan Robinson, Kelly Sawyer, and Marney Thompson.
