Imboden - Palma Eileen (Fey) Campbell, daughter of Carl & Florence (Gaffey) Fey was born August 8, 1933 in Moville, Iowa. Palma grew up on a farm with her parents and three brothers, Gilbert, Wayne and Donald. As a child, Palma enjoyed arts and crafts, writing poetry and playing basketball. Palma was proud of and worked hard at being a manager at Kresge, now known as K-Mart.
Palma met Francis “Mike” Earl Campbell in Sioux City, Iowa where Mike was stationed in the Air Force. The couple was married on January 10, 1959 and made Sloan, Iowa their home. Their first child, George Frederick was born in March 1960 and just two months later Mike was transferred to and they traveled together to Suffolk, England. While in England their children, Craig Allen Matthew (October 1961) and Stuart James (November 1962) were born. The family left England in April 1964 and resided back in Iowa. Their only daughter, Lynn Bernadette was born in June 1964 while Mike was stationed in New Mexico. The family stayed in Iowa until October 1966 when Mike was transferred to Okinawa, Japan leaving Palma and the children with Mike’s parents. In July 1967, Palma and the kids went to be with Mike. The family returned to the states in May 1969 and were stationed in Minot, North Dakota. Mike had to leave the family once again when he transferred to Greenland in May 1970 returning the next year. Once he returned to the United States, he was transferred to Blytheville, Arkansas. While in Blytheville, Palma delivered their youngest child, Scott Andrew in October 1971. Mike retired from the Air Force in May 1974 and the family moved to Imboden where they would become longtime residents. Palma and Mike were of the Catholic faith and their family attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Arkansas.
Palma opened a ceramic shop in town, Pam’s Ceramics, in 1975. Together the family would make green ware from molds and customers would choose paints and green ware to paint in the store with Pam’s help. She taught free painting classes on Tuesdays. Her greatest joy came from the community’s children painting in her ceramic shop. She would never turn anyone away, even those who couldn’t pay. Palma would come up with a piece for those children and provide them with paint. She loved seeing a child’s face when they finished their project. Many of the children without much of a home life could find refuge doing ceramics and just spending time talking with Palma. She ran the ceramic shop until 1990 following the passing of her husband Mike. Palma devoted her life to volunteering in the Imboden community. Weekly, Palma would read to preschoolers and through the Tyson Wing reading program she would give books to the children she read to. She was very involved in the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) chapter in town. On Wednesdays, while she had the ceramic shop, she would close the shop to attend the GFWC meetings. During her involvement, she served as club president many times and served as parliamentarian, art chairman and yearbook chairman as well. She was even named Woman of the Year which was a prestigious award. Through the GFWC, Palma judged Sloan-Hendrix School’s art contests and Christmas decoration contests in town. She also volunteered at blood drives for the American Red Cross and was a member of the Lioness Club. Palma loved watching football, especially Notre Dame, as well as golf and horse races.
Palma is survived by her five children: George Frederick (Jen) Campbell of Lake Limmerick, Washington, Craig Allen Matthew (Phyllis) Campbell of Paragould, Arkansas, Stuart James (Jan) Campbell of Witter, Arkansas, Lynn Bernadette (Campbell) Rose of Cave City, Arkansas, and Scott Andrew (Buffi) Campbell of Imboden, Arkansas; nine grandchildren: Samuel (Michelle) Land, Cody (Julie) Land, Jeff Rose, Kevin (Rachael) Rose, Sarah Campbell, Rachel Campbell, Skylar Campbell, Whitney (Remington) Hernandez, Jagger Campbell, Dawn Waldrop, Bess (Carey) Schrachta and Sara Bowers; eleven great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Florence (Gaffey) Fey; her husband, Francis “Mike” Campbell; her brothers Gilbert, Wayne, and Donald Fey; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Vogler) Fey; and best friend, Rose Hein.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2018 in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM with a Rosary being said at 7:00 PM.
Funeral service will be Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home at 10:00 with Father Mariadass Vallapaneni officiating. Internment will be in Hope Cemetery.
