Arthur Lee Rowell, 79, Magnolia Highway, died unexpectedly Thursday in an El Dorado hospital. Born in Union County, North Carolina, July 25, 1886, he was the son of John and Eliza Ellen Chaney Rowell and had lived in Union County, Arkansas as a farmer and merchant since 1899. Rowell was a member and deacon in the Rehobeth Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, John Lee Rowell of Magnolia; two daughters, Mrs. Glynn Lewis of Magnolia and Mrs. C. C. Darden of El Dorado; a brother, J. E. Rowell of El Dorado; two half brothers, Horace Evans of Benton and James Evans of Washington; three half sisters, Mrs. Hattie Chadwick of Hamburg, Mrs. Lela Cole and Mrs. Blanche Pitts, both of El Dorado; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Friendship Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Ainsworth and Rev. W. A. Speer officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendship Methodist Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers are Joe Ellis Rowell, Charles Darden, Charlie Smith, Travis Burns, George Rowell Haney and John Allen Haney. The family will be at the C. C. Darden home on the Magnolia Highway.
