Gerald G. Botteron, 85, died January 14, 2016 at Southridge Nursing Home, where he resided the last few months of his life. Born on May 16, 1930 in Elgin, Illinois, “Jerry” spent much of his adult life in the Quad City area of Iowa/Illinois. He worked nearly 30 years as an electrician for Alcoa.
In 1958, Jerry married Jeanne Banick knowing that she had MS and would need extensive care for most of her life. He also accepted the responsibility of helping to raise two step-sons, Brian and Brandon Beaudry.

Retiring from Alcoa in the 1980s, Jerry and Jeanne moved to Arkansas to enjoy their retirement in more moderate temperatures. Jeanne died in 1988 when the couple lived in Fairfield Bay. A few years later, Jerry moved to his adopted home town, Heber Springs.

Jerry will be remembered for his generous nature, love of animals and contagious laugh. He adopted dogs that were abandoned or surrendered and provided the same kind of loving care for them that he did for his human family. His interests included all things electrical, especially cars, astronomy, auto mechanics . Jerry was known as a person who could fix nearly anything, including the broken heart of an abandoned puppy.

He is survived by his step-sons Adrian Brandon Beaudry of Advance, North Carolina, Brian Michael Beaudry of Bettendorf, Iowa, his brother-in-law Tom Banick and sister-in-law Mildred Banick both of East Moline, Illinois, a niece Ellen Wayne of Providence, Rhode Island, a granddaughter Lindsey Greenzweig, and two great-grandchildren Grayson and A.J. Greenzweig. Mr. Botteron is also survived by his other relatives and many friends.

The family wishes to thank Jack Duke for his unwavering friendship for Jerry and to Southridge staff for their excellent care.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held from 1 to 2:30 PM on Tuesday, January 19 at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to send donations to the animal rescue organizations of their choice.
