Joan Free Thompson of Issaquah, Washington died Monday, March 11, 2013, after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. Joan was raised on a farm in Varner, Arkansas and married Joe Clyde Thompson on March 11, 1943. They lived in Coral Gables, Florida where Joe was based as a pilot for Eastern Airlines and Joan enjoyed taking care of their four children and developed a lifelong love of golf. They retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, living on the golf course. More recently she lived at University House, Issaquah to be closer to her children, enjoying an occasional trip to the driving range, and managing the family farm in Arkansas.

Joan was known for her sense of humor and wit, often shared with her many golf partners. She will be missed by many in Florida, Arkansas and Washington.

She is survived by her four children, Steven D. Thompson of Portland, Oregon, Susan Free Howe of Salt Lake City, Utah, Cathy Jo Linn of Sammamish, Washington, and James E. Thompson of Petersburg, Kentucky; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at Woodland Memorial Park near Fairfield Bay, Arkansas on Hwy. 16 East on Saturday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. when her ashes will be buried next to her husband.
