SPRINGDALE — Geneva Jean McCollough, 93, a lifelong resident of Springdale, Ark., passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at The Maples Nursing Home.

Jean was born on Jan. 9, 1923, in Mansfield, Mo., a daughter of Joseph Clarence Shinpaugh and Maggie Moody Shinpaugh. Jean was a hairdresser for many years and also owned and operated Springdale Yard Ornaments. She enjoyed many crafts including tole and china painting, making carousel horses, and running flea market booths.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude McCollough; her son, Larry Lee Vernon; sister, Juanita Umbaugh; brother, Leroy Shinpaugh; and niece, Geneva Powers.

She is survived by two stepdaughters, Jackie (John) Parks and Judy McCollough; three grandchildren; her nephew and caregiver, Joe (Tina) Shinpaugh; two nieces, Becky (Ed) Ogle and Jo Anne Franco.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale. To sign the online guest book, visit www.Backstrom-Pyeatte.com.
