Opal Gilchrist died December 17, 2016, widow of Carroll Gilchrist. Born October 11, 1924 daughter of late H.C. and Annie Mae Bertram Durham. Survivors: sons Dan and James Gilchrist, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Carroll K. Gilchriest, age 88, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Indian Rock Village. Born in Voth, Texas, on January 23, 1922, he was the son of the late Earl Hicks Gilchriest and Agnes Ivy Jones Gilchriest.

A former resident of Port Neches, Texas, Mr. Gilchriest was a pipefitter, having been employed by Neches Butane Company for thirty-six years at the time of his retirement. A veteran of World War II, he served his country proudly in the United States Army Air Corps as a staff sergeant. On January 8, 1944, Mr. Gilchriest married the former Opal Durham, and they recently observed their 67th wedding anniversary. A resident of Fairfield Bay since 1982, he was a 32 degree Mason and member of the Edgemont Lodge and Blue Lodge 89, a Shriner and member of the Fairfield Bay Shrine Club and the Scottish Rite Temple in Little Rock; a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, and a former member of the Lions Club. Mr. Gilchriest enjoyed singing and had recorded several CDs. He was a member of the Eglantine Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilchriest was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Gilchriest; and two sisters, Earline Kirkpatrick and Patsy Zerko.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Gilchriest of Fairfield Bay; two sons, Dan M. Gilchriest of Dodge City, Kansas, and James C. Gilchriest of Camano Island, Washington; one brother, John Edward Gilchriest of Beaumont, Texas; two granddaughters, Kelly Briggs and Ashley Gilchriest; and three great grandsons, Riley Briggs, William Briggs, and Parker Briggs. Mr. Gilchriest is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
