Zora BENNETT FREEMAN

Marianna Memorial Park (Marianna) Cemetery
Lee County,
Arkansas

1860 - 1941
Zora Bennett Freeman was the oldest of nine children of James Francis Bennett (1835-1907) and Sarah Frances (Taylor) Bennett (1840-1878). Her mother died when Zora was in her teens. Her father fought in the Civil War, was wounded twice and lost a leg. As the oldest of the children, Zora had responsibility for the home and for her younger siblings.

According to her son, Thomas Bennett Freeman, Zora was an independent, efficient and fearless person, and she inspired these qualities in her children. She was rarely sick and managed the home with a firm but gentle hand. Zora had a deep-rooted faith.
