Wilford W. Banks III, known as "D.J.," passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.
D.J. was born July 3, 1987 in Forrest City, the fourth child of Elder Wilford W. Banks Jr. and Dar Ann Smith Banks.
D. J. accepted Jesus as his personal savior at an early age at Union Hill Baptist Church and later joined Good Hope Freewill Baptist Church under the leadership of his father, Elder Wilford W. Banks, Jr.
D.J. graduated from Palestine-Wheatley High School in 2005. After graduation he attended Pulaski Tech in Little Rock. He enrolled in Washington Barber College in Little Rock, where he became a Licensed Barber.
D.J.'s last days with us were filled with all of the things that brought him great joy; spending time with his family, traveling and celebrating the holidays. D.J. will be remembered for his smile, his hearty laugh, big hugs and giving spirit.
D.J. was preceded in death by his grandparents, L. C. Smith Sr., Elder Wilford W. Bank, Sr., and Walter and Eddie Mae Hawkins.
D.J. leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Wilford W. Banks Jr. and Dar Ann Smith Banks of Palestine; three sisters, Lydia Banks of Palestine, Litisha (Kendel) Atkins and LaEartha Banks all of Little Rock; his grandmother, Eartha Smith of Palestine; four nieces, Taylor, Kendelyn, Savannah, and Imani; two nephews, Steve Jr. and Kendel Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, church family members and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services, 2615 S. Washington St. in Forrest City.
Funeral services for Wilford W. "D.J." Banks, III will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Good Hope Freewill Baptist Church, 105 Memphis Ave in Wheatley, with Elder Wilford W. Banks, Jr. delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Gill Cemetery.
Kincaid Funeral Services of Forrest City is in charge of arrangements.


LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - One man has died after being shot multiple times in a Wednesday night drive-by shooting, the Little Rock Police Department (LRPD) says.

The LRPD says they were called to W. 25th Street around 5 p.m. in regards to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they say they met with a woman who explained that she was sitting in her car on W. 25th Street when she saw a dark gray Camry pull up next to a burgundy Kia. She said the person in the Camry started shooting at the Kia and then started to drive off, still firing more shots at the car. The Kia then drove off in the same direction.

Officers were then called to UAMS in regards to a shooting victim who had arrived in a burgundy Kia. According to the police report, the victim was identified as Wilford Banks, 29, of Little Rock.

Banks was taken into surgery with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the hospital from his injuries.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
