William Lyde Benson of Marianna passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Forrest City, Arkansas at the age of 86.
Lyde was born on February 17, 1922 in Wabbaseka, Arkansas to James Harvey and Eula Calaway Benson. He married Muriel Dean Wilson on June 21, 1942, and they enjoyed 66 years together.
After time spent in the Military during WWII, Lyde made a living for his family as a farmer. He was an active member and former Deacon of First Assembly of God Church in Marianna.
Loved ones surviving him are sons William Murrel Benson of Moro, AR; James Lynn Benson and wife Sandra of Marianna; and Randy Layne Benson and wife Sheryl of Marion, AR; daughters Lyda Ann Jackson and husband Travis of Forrest City, AR; and Lori Suzanne Smith and husband Myles of West Plains, MO; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters Clo Ann Daniels, Wilma Dean McClendon, and Eva Nell Mow; and other relatives and many friends.
Family members preceding Lyde in death were his parents, Harvey and Eula Benson; and brothers Ben and Olan Benson.
Services will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna, with burial following at Marianna Memorial Park.
Visitation will also be at the Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
