Julius Benham, Jr. died of influenza in a hospital in Dallas, Texas. Some weeks earlier he had enlisted in the Army Air Force, and he was going for training at John Dick Aviation Camp, which was located on the State Fairgrounds in Dallas, when he was overtaken by the disease. His remains were returned to Marianna for burial at Cedar Heights Cemetery. At the committal service, two biplanes from an airfield at Memphis circled over the cemetery and scattered white lilies. Julius Behnam American Legion Post #5 at Marianna was named in his honor.
