Obituary
He is survived by his children, Marilyn, Stephen and Cathy, Michael and Nancy, Carol and Joseph; his grandchildren, Bill and Marianne, Camden and Stan, Becky and Matt, Matthew, Kevin and Tamar, Marla and Tommy, Celeste and Evan, John and Joey; his great grandchildren, Will, Jonas, Griffin, Andrew, Catherina, Quinlan, Mason and Lily; and his dear friend Adrianna.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and eldest son Robert.

Maes was born in Chicago on April 13, 1910. He met Dorothy on a tennis court in 1933 and they married on June 15, 1935. He worked for the Sante Fe Railroad and Argonne National Laboratory until retirement. He planted a forest of trees to surround his home and his wine cellar was a famous haunt of relatives and friends. It contained an amazing collection of not-so-ordinary antiques and one could taste some of his excellent home-made wine from the bottle or wooden barrel.

Lee and Dorothy lived in Eureka Springs in the 1970s and '80s and were one of those rare old couples, found on occasion here, who enjoyed frequenting get-togethers of all kinds, from church socials to "spring boogies."

Throughout his life, he entertained family, friends and fellow parishioners with his beautiful tenor voice and play-by-ear piano talent.

His remains will be blessed at a Mass at St. Elizabeth's, downtown, on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 8:30 a.m. followed by a casual-attire interment ceremony at the Eureka Springs Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved Dorothy. Anyone is invited to say some words in remembrance.
