David Lea Bloodworth, 88, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Ark. David was born in Natchez, Miss., on Oct. 9, 1924, to Thomas and Martha (Breithaupt) Bloodworth.

He was raised in New Orleans, LA. Mr. Bloodworth joined the U.S. Navy Seabees at the outbreak of World War II. At the time he was employed at Andrew Higgins Shipyard as an apprentice and helped test the landing craft seen in the famous D-Day invasion photos. In France, David took part in the landing at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He worked for Shell Oil Company for over 20 years, in New Orleans and Atlanta and later went into business for himself.

Mr. Bloodworth was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Thomas S. Bloodworth, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 42 years, Iris Bloodworth of Greenbrier; two daughters, Sandra Sanchez of Fairhope, Ala. and Lisa Roska (Bob) of Dacula, GA.; one brother, John Bloodworth of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service, under the direction of Roller-McNutt of Greenbrier, will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or a charity of choice.
