Wife of Lloyd Donald Lewis, US NAVY, RM2, KOREA
Lela Louise Kirkendoll Lewis, age 80, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at Sherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from advanced Alzheimer's disease. She was born May 20, 1932 at Clinton, Arkansas.
Louise accepted Christ as her Savior when she was a teenager, and lived a Christian life ever since. She was a member of Forty-Seventh Street Baptist Church in North Little Rock since 1960. She taught young girls Sunday school classes, and enjoyed helping in preparing many meals for church functions. She worked for the North Little Rock Times weekly newspaper for twenty years as a composer and part-time food editor. She was always swapping recipes and preparing many dishes to share with co-workers.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Bertha (Huggins) Kirkendoll, infant granddaughter, Jessica Danielle Lewis, infant grandson, Lloyd James Lewis, brother, Howard Kirkendoll, and sister, Ruth Isom.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Lloyd Donald Lewis, son, Donald S. Lewis (Julie) of North Little Rock, son, Kenny J. Lewis of North Little Rock, grandsons, Derek K. Lewis of North Little Rock and Joshua C. Lewis of Fayetteville, two granddaughters, Rachel L. Cotroneo (Jon) of Fayetteville and Kasey L. Lewis of Fayetteville, and great-granddaughter, Ella Faye Lewis, sister, Faye Wilson of Lindsey CA, sister, Loretta Ming (Jim) of Chino Valley, AZ, and brother, Larry Kirkendoll (Linda) of Farmersville CA, and many nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to express its very sincere appreciation for the care given Lela (as they knew her) by the CNAs, nurses and staff at Sherwood Nursing and Rehab Center and Odyssey Hospice.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Arkansas State Veterans' Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd. North Little Rock, AR (501-791-7400).
