SPRINGDALE — William "Bill" Chester Baker, 87, of Springdale died Aug. 26, 2000, in Springdale. He was born Dec. 8, 1912, in Elm Springs to Charles and Zilphia Wardlaw Baker. He retired from the U.S. Air Force, where he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was a former deacon of First Christian Church in Springdale, where he served many years on the church-property committee. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Heindselman Baker of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Baker of Fayetteville and Bruce Baker and Diane of Tulsa, Okla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Hoyt and Robert of Centralia, Mo.; one brother, C. Wayne Baker of Jay, Okla.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Springdale, with the Rev. Keith Marinus officiating. Burial will be in Elm Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale.

Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2120 W. Emma, Springdale, 72762, or Friends of Hospice, Washington Regional Medical Center, 4241 Gabel Drive, Fayetteville, 72703.
