Terry A. Holley, (SGM, U.S. Army, retired), 72, of North Little Rock died Sunday, April 16, 2017. He was born January 24, 1945 in Dr. Johnny Price's clinic beside the Missouri Pacific railroad tracks in Monticello, Arkansas to Leonard A. Holley and Margaret (Terry) Holley. He grew with the Ashley, Drew and Northern Railway running through his back yard. He graduated from Monticello, Arkansas High School in 1963 and attended A&M College (now UAM). He married Patricia Jean (Jean) Cotton on May 24, 1968.
Terry is predeceased (2014) by his wife Jean of 46 years, the love of his life, and his parents. He is survived by two sons, Michael Holley and wife Tesha of North Little Rock and David Holley and wife Brandy of Maumelle; three grandchildren, Austin Holley, Anna Holley and Levi Holley; brother, Dennis Holley and wife, Joy of Monticello and three sisters-in-law, Corine Ewing, of Morrilton, Louise Gee, of Midland, Texas and Margaret Martin, of Pine Bluff and their husbands.
Terry joined the Arkansas Army National Guard in Monticello, Arkansas on May 18, 1965 as a Unit Supply Clerk. He retired June 5, 2005 in North Little Rock as the Logistics Sergeant Major, ARNG, with forty years and 22 days of service. His awards include: Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th award). Terry was a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeant's Major Academy.
After retirement from the Guard, he worked several years as a hard ware clerk for Stanley Hardware. As he said "to keep him off the streets and out of the pool hall".
In 1953, Terry joined Scouting. He earned his Eagle Scout in 1958 in Monticello. He re-entered Scouting as Scoutmaster to Troop 431 in North Little Rock. During his tenure as a Scout leader, he was awarded the Scoutmaster Award of Excellence, District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver and Vigil Honor; Order of the Arrow. He was crew advisor for 6 treks to Philmont Scout Ranch, Cimarron, MN.
Terry was an award winning model railroader, published railroad author, railroad historian and photographer. Perhaps because of where he was born or where he grew up, he had a lifelong interest in railroads.
He enjoyed a good meal, loved to tell stories and be with family and friends. He was quick to tell you that the best decision he ever made was to marry Jean and that, of all the things he had done in his life, he was the most proud of Michael and David.
A special thanks for the friendship of "Train Guys", Anne Simpson and Whitney Ransom and friends from Scouting and the Guard. Thanks to Dr. J. Geoghagan and Dr. Paul Valentin-Stone, their nurses and staff for their care.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2017 at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 23rd at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
