Charles Spurgeon Reed Jr., age 82 of Searcy, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013. Born September 27, 1931 near Turkey, TX.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Spurgeon Reed, Sr. and Zella Mildred Wood, and younger brother Chester Dennis Reed.
Charles leaves behind his wife, Carolyn Jean Baker and five sisters in Searcy: Christine Oswald, Zella (Derrel) Holden, Dorothy Smith, Carolyn (James) Hill, Donna (Ralph) Crenshaw.
Charles grew up in Marina, CA , graduated from Monterey High School in 1949, and attended Hartnell Junior College in Salinas, CA. He joined the US Air Force in 1951, where he served as a Jet Engine Mechanic. Following his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, he learned to fly. He served as Chief Pilot for Diamond Shamrock Oil Company for 23 years, where he became a world traveler. On retiring, he contracted with prominent people, and flew internationally for several years. Some of his notable clients were Donald Trump and Barbara Walters.

He retired from flying to become the owner of Reed Bird Farm (Emus & Ostriches) in Texas. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Baker, in 2002; they moved to Searcy, Arkansas in 2009. He fought a brave battle with cancer from 2004 until 2013.

Graveside service Friday, November 22, 2013 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
