FAYETTEVILLE — Dorothy M. Reif, Age 85, of Fayetteville, Ark., died June 7, 2013. She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., on 25 August, 1927 to Irving & Sadie (Feinblatt) Levy.

She attended school in the Bronx, and went on to study at the Art Students League in Manhattan where she met her future husband Rubin Reif. They were married in 1949 and spent a year in France and Italy pursuing art and life. Rubin's teaching career took them to Columbus, Ohio, then in 1953 to Fayetteville where Rubin taught art at the UofA and Dorothy taught art classes and raised two children.

She continued her lifelong pursuit of art until the last months before her death, enjoying the patronage of a number of local private collectors and businesses. She was a longtime member of the Artists of Northwest Arkansas (ANA), Temple Shalom, and volunteered for many years for the Arkansas Holocaust Education Committee. She was a colorful fixture at the Fayetteville Farmers' Market, whose characters and flowers were a frequent inspiration for her art.

She is survived by her daughter, Erika J. Reif of Durham, N.C.; her son, Marc G. Reif of Fayetteville, Ark.; granddauhter, Laxmi Haynes of Durham, N.C.; grandson, Hanuman Reif of Ashville, N.C.; granddaughters, Zoe P. Reif and Ana C. Reif of Fayetteville, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband Rubin and her brother Ira Levy of Fort Pierce, Fla.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11 at 2:30 p.m., at the Nelson-Berna Funeral Home on Crossover Road in Fayetteville.

Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens on Mission Road.

Memorial donations could be made in Dorothy's honor to the Arkansas Holocaust Education Committee, P.O. Box 1371, Springdale AR 72765.
