Hadfield (born in Sirth Rock, Arkansas) and Anna B. Snuggs (born in Viameda, Arkansas). In 1924, he moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he worked in many different jobs during the Great Depression. Later, he moved to Little Rock, Ark., with his family. He graduated from the University of Arkansas (BSME) in 1941, went straight into the military and became a test pilot. In 1943, while in Arkansas, he was testing a P-47 Thunderbolt and broke the sound barrier (unrecorded). During his military service he received more college degrees in Illinois where he met his wife of 69 years, Maxine Booth. After retiring from the military, he moved to Florida to take up home construction, investing, and traveling.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Maxine Booth. Ed is survived by his two sons, Paul, of Ark., and Jack, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
As per his request, Ed's body was donated to science and no service will he held.
