Patrick Ryan “Pat” Harrison, 73, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away December 19, 2015.

He was born November 18, 1942, in Elgin, Illinois, to the late Charles Leslie and Marjorie Jean (Ryan) Harrison.

Patrick proudly served in the United States Navy and served two combat tours in the Mekong Delta Region in Vietnam.

He demonstrated a love of education by earning a BA in Math from Ohio State University, a Masters in Computer Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins, and PhD from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Patrick worked as a professor at Hope College in Holland,Michigan and was later appointed as a professor to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and was also a professor at Johns Hopkins during that time. He was also very proud of his consulting for Microsoft. As chairman of the computer science department, he was recognized for his distinguished service as a researcher and was named teacher of the year on multiple occasions. He later retired as Professor Emeritus from the Naval Academy.

In his younger years, Patrick was a boxer and trained other fighters. He enjoyed golf, running marathons, and loved to ride his motorcycles until his health wouldn’t allow it. Teaching was his real passion, and he never stopped learning or educating others. Patrick authored and co-authored several books and loved to study his Bible on a daily basis. Even at the end of his life, he was in the middle of writing a book to help children better understand math.

Pat is survived by his wife Rentha Harrison of Hot Springs Village, children Robert Harrison (Stephanie) of California, Kathleen King (Wayne) of Maryland, Naomi Fowler (Grant) of Florida, Abi Osborne (Aaron) of Virginia and Step Son Michael Lovelady (Brittany) of Arkansas; Brothers Mike Harrison (Norma) of Texas and Thomas Harrison (Mona) of Arkansas; 7 grandsons and 3 granddaughters.

Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 6, 2015 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
