Miller S. King, 77, of Little Rock, passed away October 4, 2014. Born in Jonesboro to Laddie and Vaye White King, he graduated from Arkansas State University in 1958 and received his Master’s degree in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University in 1975. He taught Chemistry at Central High School in Little Rock until it closed in the late 1950’s.
Miller joined the Air Force and served for 29 years. He accumulated 6500 hours flying the C-47, HC-130, CV-580, BE-90 and DC-9 while serving at various bases, including Blytheville, Arkansas, Marin County, California, Vietnam, Spain, England and Andrews AFB in Maryland for the 89th Military Airlift Wing (Presidential Squadron). He returned to Little Rock AFB where he served as a CAP Liaison Officer and instructor in the C-130. Retiring as a Lt. Col. in August, 1988, he had earned many medals and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the USAF Air Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Order of Daedalians.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Nickle King; son, James Nickle King and wife, Mara of New Mexico; daughter, Christy Lynn King of Little Rock; brother, Doug King and wife, Nita of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and two grandchildren, James Blaze King and Miller Zane King.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 10 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, officiated by Dr. Bob Dunaway.
