January 18, 1927 - September 7, 2015
Charles "Charlie" Edward McCain left this earth to go to home to be with the Lord on September 7th, 2015. He was 90 years old and had lived in Clarksville area for 52 years where he was Owner of Charlie's Shoe Shop for 30 years.
He was born January 18th, 1925 in Hornell, New York to Lela Van Dyke. When Charlie was 18 months old, he was placed on the Orphan train and was adopted by Andy and Ona McCain in Childress, Texas, where he met and married the love of his life Madeline Arnn on Feb 14, 1943.
Charlie was the proud father of five children- Sandra Harvey, Charles "Butch" McCain, Stephen McCain, Susan Mays, and Shelley Dillard.
He was a World War II Veteran who served from 1942-1948 in Italy.
Charlie was a member of the Church of Christ in Coal Hill where he served as an elder for several years.
A strong believer in giving back, Charlie was part of 7 missionary trips to Central America before he helped found and operate the Angel Closet in 2005 with his wife and daughter, Sandra. The Angel closet provides free clothing for the needy in the Johnson County area.
Charlie was preceded in death by his grandson, Edward Grissom on December 18th, 2004, and his granddaughter, Rhonda Grissom, on December 10th, 1967.
He is survived by sixteen grandchildren: Kim Heruska, Madeline Phillips, Meredith Young, Josh Harvey, Bryan McCain, Todd Mccain, Stephenee Pemberton, Chris McCain, Johnny Mays, Tara Mays, Nathan (Fred) Mays, Jason Dillard and Jody Dillard; thirty-five great grandchildren: Dondi Harkreader, Jamey Harkreader, Jessica Harkreader, Gideon Grissom, Kasey Sisk, Keaton Phillips, Kaylyn Phillips, Paul Young, Shelby Young, Zoie Harvey, Zain Harvey, Jeremy McCain, Ty McCain, Breyden McCain, Joseph McCain, Brooklyn Lewis, Kylie McCain, Kyle McCain, Kristina McCain, Malachi Davis, Benjamin Pemberton, Andrew Pemberton, Jude Mays, Roxie Gonzolez, Kaden Mays, Ethan Mays, Zac Dillard, Justin Dillard, Ashlynn Dillard, Kail Dillard, Khamree Cowell, Kyerra Cowell, Logan Foster, Chris Foster, Dustin Foster; and twenty-six great-great-grandchildren: Lee Harkreader, Claire Harkreader, Addison Harkreader, Aiden Harkreader, Isaac Mathews, Samuel Mathews, Christian Mathews, Gabriel Grissom, Gracin Grissom, Lane Sisk, Max Sisk, Maybre McCain, Laken Lewis, Raleigh DeWinter, Bella Ball, Jaden McCain, Aaliyah Moore, JP Moore, Kinsley Moore, Ameslee Moore, Quin Moore, David Foster, Ralynn Foster, Christina Foster, Kyle Reynolds, and Kody Reynolds.
His eight grandsons will serve as Pallbearers: Josh Harvey, Bryan McCain, Todd McCain, Christopher McCain, Johnny Mays, Nathan Mays, Jason Dillard, and Jody Dillard.
A visitation will be held 12-2 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville, preceding the funeral service. The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Bullock and Toby Hogan officiating. Burial will follow in West Mount Zion Cemetery in Hartman, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that Charlie be memorialized with donations to the Charlie McCain Memorial Fund through First Security Bank in Clarksville. Arkansas. All of these proceeds will be donated to the Angel Closet.
