Fayetteville man dies in wreck

Justin A. Ternes, 41, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday night when a car he was driving went off a highway, struck a tree broadside and caught fire, an Arkansas State Police spokesman said.

Ternes was alone in the 1990 Nissan, which was driving south on Arkansas 23, about four miles south of the Madison-Franklin County line, troopers said. The accident occurred at 8:46 p.m. The weather was clear and the road was dry. It wasn't known whether Ternes was wearing a seat belt.

The fatality brought the number of people killed in Arkansas traffic accidents this year to 571, up from 566 at this time last year, police said.
