Zollie Mitcham, 71, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at his home, 107 W. 12th Street, Smackover. Born in Bernice, La., on Jan. 26, 1894, the son of E. W. and Sallie Skinner Mitcham. He was a retired employed of the Magnolia Oil Co., and had lived in Smackover for about 40 years. He was a member of the Maple Avenue Baptist Church and was one of its deacons. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Macy Butler Mitcham of Smackover; a son, Max Mitcham of Smackover; a daughter, Mrs. A. R. Chapman of Opelousas, La.; a brother, H. G. Mitcham of Bernice; five sisters, Mrs. I. W. Nolan of Bernice, Mrs. J. R. Weldon of Jonesboro, La., Mrs. J. H. Thompson of Summerfield, La., Mrs. C. J. Goss of West Monroe, La. and Mrs. L. N. Green of Bossier City, La., and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Maple Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Lewis E. Clark and the Rev. D. C. McAtee officiating. Burial will be in Smackover Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Active pallbearers will be A. J. Fambrough, Jr., W. D. McBride, Jim R. Jameson, Bobby G. Newman, W. H. White, Jr. and Jim M. Tennyson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the G. A. Dodson Sunday School Class and board members of the deacons of Maple Avenue Baptist Church. The body will be taken to the church one hour before time for the services. (The El Dorado Times - October 4, 1965)
