Inscription: In memory of Dr. B.F. Parsons Born April 17th 1822 Died Feb. 21st 1870
B.F. Parsons was held in Union POW Camp for Confederates in Alton, IL during the Civil War (20 Jan 1862 - 24 Aug 1863). He is listed as a "Citizen" (i.e., not Confederate military). He was arrested at his house in Saline County Missouri. It is likely he was imprisoned for providing medical aid to Confederate soldiers.
